Jamie Carragher Doubts Arsenal’s Premier League Title Chances Due to Key Positions
Former Liverpool player and current pundit, Jamie Carragher, has expressed his skepticism about Arsenal’s chances of winning the Premier League this season. Carragher believes that the Gunners are lacking in two crucial areas following their recent defeat to Newcastle.
Arsenal suffered their first loss of the season in a controversial match where the winning goal appeared to come from a ball that had gone out of play. Additionally, Kai Havertz escaped a red card for a tackle that left fans shocked. These incidents have highlighted the weaknesses in Arsenal’s squad.
Carragher specifically pointed out Arsenal’s goalkeeping and striking positions as areas of concern. Despite having Spain international David Raya and England international Aaron Ramsdale in their squad, Carragher does not believe they have a proven goalkeeper. He also feels that Arsenal lack a proper striker through the middle.
Fellow pundit Izzy Christiansen echoed Carragher’s sentiments, stating that Arsenal did not create enough chances in their recent match against Newcastle. She suggested that Arsenal may need a target player to adapt their style and improve their attacking options.
Carragher further emphasized his doubts by questioning whether Arsenal’s current squad has what it takes to win the league. He expressed concerns about Ramsdale’s ability and criticized Raya for being inconsistent. While he acknowledged that bringing in Declan Rice could improve the team, he believes that Arsenal’s overall performance lacks fluidity compared to last season.
Christiansen added that teams have figured out how to play against Arsenal, stifling their attacking play in the final third. She noted that Arsenal often rely on cutting back when in scoring positions, which allows opposing teams to become more organized defensively.
As Arsenal currently sit three points behind champions Manchester City, who they defeated earlier in the season, it remains to be seen if Mikel Arteta’s side can overcome these challenges and mount a serious title challenge.
